Rhinophyma
(literally ‘nose swelling’)
Rhinophyma is caused by overgrowth of the oil glands in the skin of the nose. This makes the nose bulbous, red and pitted. It is considered to be a type of rosacea
TREATMENT
MEDICAL – Minor cases are usually treated by GP’s and Dermatologists with medications used in acne and rosacea to reduce the infective and reactive glandular component
SURGICAL – The most common and effective treatment for more severe cases is surgical shave excision of the involved tissue
